Movie Review: The Batman

Probably the most important aspect to realize while watching another Batman movie like this one, is when or why or who decided that so many of these movies have almost every scene in total darkness, along with way too many depressing rainy scenes. A movie like this one, is not for anyone who is suffering from depression, for fear of falling over the edge. Far too many movies like this one, are also way too long, this one about 3 dark depressing hours. There was no reason, for this story to be told for 3 hours. Two hours and ten minutes was more than enough.

One thing different here is that the characters of the Penguin, Riddler and at the end even the Joker were dressed and appeared like normal people. No over the top makeup or costumes. However, considering that the main character Batman is wearing a completely ridiculous suit with funny ears, making the villains look normal seemed at times, out of place.

As far as the acting with the new Batman played by Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Paul Dano as the Riddler – I thought it was mostly good throughout. The story however, was nothing special, we have all seen stories like this before, especially in super hero movies.

After so many serious Batman movies, lets have a new idea, reminding us of the funny 1960s Batman series. The idea is absurd, the costume is ridiculous, so how about some sense of humor rather than trying to make something serious from the idiotic.

Overall, I am surprised at the very high ratings 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.7 on IMDB – with my rating in the 75% range, and a marginal recommendation.

Movie Review: The Worst Person in the World

The title of the new film, “The Worst Person in the World” – considering what it is about, makes no sense. This movie is about one woman and the story arc of her relationships with two men, so perhaps she feels like the worst person in the world based on some of her decisions with breaking up with her boyfriends. Cheating on her first relationship and generally, like all of us, trying to figure out what is the best thing she has to do with her own personal life, that can be mired with agonizing pain for both people involved.

There is all also a correlation made in this story about health after a devastating breakup, something that we all know is possible due to the result of long term stress and depression on the human body. As every human being knows, relationships can give you equal parts of agony and ecstasy and can at times be about giving another person the power to cause a great deal of emotional pain, if things do not work out.

For those those to hate to read subtitles, this movie is out of Oslo Norway and does have subtitles, but the acting is so real and natural you get used to the subtitles very quickly. This movie was also nominated for an Oscar, for best original screenplay and I agree that this story was very original.

The Rotten Tomatoes ratings for this film are a very high 97%, with my rating in the 80% range and overall, a solid recommendation.

Movie Review: Dog

The new movie “Dog” not only has the simplest title, but also the simplest story. A soldier who was friends with someone who was killed in Afghanistan is hired by his commanding officer to transport his dog across country to his funeral. From that point on, this entire movie is all about Channing Tatum transporting a German Shepard across country, with various dramatic and funny scenes along the way. This is the entire movie, that is hard to believe was greenlighted into a movie – but it was. Some of the scenes are funny, some are emotional and almost all of them are for hard core dog lovers. However, there is really no story here and not much of a movie.

I am surprised to see the relatively high ratings of 77% for such a simple film, my rating being in the 50% rating -giving this film a pass.
